The most important thing is being a spirit guide to the Avatar. After helping Korra, the two are separated and Jinora is used as a hostage to make the Avatar open the other spirit portal. After she's rescued by her father, Jinora is also a big part of helping Korra get Raava back from Vatu. It really shows how powerful she is spiritually and gives her some shining moments away from her family because Ikki and Meelo are quite good at making themselves the center of attention at times. History: She rode a dragon into battle and burned down the entire country, then she jumped into a volcano. It was so romantic. Personality: One might look at Jinoraâs younger siblings and realize just how different she is from them. This is because sheâs far more reserved than them. Jinora has always been different from her brother and sister, preferring to show self-restraint. Both of her younger siblings take after their Grandfather (when he was younger) and their Uncle Bumi while she tends to take after her father and is even a great deal like the Air Nomads as they were before the Hundred Year War. Being the oldest of the siblings, Jinora has a responsibility that the others donât. Not to mention that there is a great duty to the return of the Air Nomads much like her father did when he was younger. One day that duty will fall to her shoulders along with her siblings. Maturity is something she has in excess (and could do to share with her siblings) and while part of it comes from being the eldest, itâs simply just who Jinora is. While she may not be mature all of the time, itâs very clearly there. Unlike Ikki, she doesnât interrupt people and unlike Meelo, she doesnât do disrespectful things such as fartbend. She even takes on the duty of being Korraâs guide to the Spirit World when her father couldnât. Yet not matter how mature she may seem, Jinora is still just an eleven year old girl and she shows it. When things are hard, she is not above needing her parents to hold her or to even hug Ikki. Sometimes she even sleeps with most of her family when sheâs worried. She is the calmest of the siblings as well, preferring reading and Pai Sho over childish (though Jinora is not above racing them from time-to-time). Even in times of excitement, Jinora doesnât take it to the level that Ikki and Meelo do. Instead she approaches things with a calm that both of her parents possess. That doesnât mean that she doesnât get excited at all, she simply doesnât show it with the boundless energy that her siblings have. To go hand-in-hand with that calm is the quietness of Jinora. Put them all together to see that Meelo and Ikki can control the conversation while she only gets a few words in. Of course, they have a tendency to interrupt it completely â especially Ikki who talks a mile a minute. Books have been her friend for a long, long time. Not just fiction as Jinora also enjoy reading non-fiction and even knows about the natural habitat of an animal sheâs never seen before. If she could get away with it, Jinora would read while eating dinner. While she does read books full of her information, she also tends to read romance a lot. Theyâre her favorite genre. No bookwormâs life would be complete without reading the journals that her family and their close friends wrote. Those are right up there with romance novels and Jinora knows them like the back of her hand. At least, most of the details are. When thereâs something missing, she doesnât hesitate to ask someone who might know â like Gran Gran. Due to spending a great deal of time reading, sheâs fairly intelligent, especially for someone her age. While in Wan Shi Tongâs library Jinora could accurately describe how a radio worked. She even knew the remains of the person who still âoccupiedâ the library. Like Ikki, her curiosity is endless even if she doesnât rapidly fire off questions that make it a little difficult to answer. Given the chance, she will ask as many questions as possible. Touching on the subject of her enjoying romance novels would not be complete without discussing her romantic side. While she has yet to express any kind of feelings towards a boy, Jinora is more than happy to involve herself in the romantic lives of those around her. Sheâs especially interested in Korraâs lovelife and doesnât even shy away learning about her motherâs like some children would be. Much to her fatherâs displeasure, Jinora is open to have a relationship of her own one day. That said -- never take her advice on the hardships of relationships because she does live a little through her books and thinks it romantic when mass-murder/suicide happens. Just because she reads about romance, doesnât mean she really understands it. To be able to deal with her siblings Jinora has to have a great deal of patience. Sometimes she even has more than her own parents because they both get frustrated or have outburst while she remains calm. Her ability to deal with frustrating individuals is not just limited to her family and she does excellent with Korra, encouraging her when others are losing patience. Though it is important to say that Jinoraâs patience is not endless â especially when it comes to Ikki. Like all siblings, the two of them do fight from time-to-time. On rare days, Jinora might even team up with Meelo to tease her and once this caused Ikki to run away to live with sky bison calves. Despite that, she does love her family even when Ikki is being annoying. There has never really been a day that Jinora has spent without seeing all of them at least once. She even attempts to wait up for her father when he spends all day in the city. After she does tease her sister enough to make her run away, Jinora truly regrets it and apologizes to her. Not only does Jinora care for her family but she also cares a great deal about those that she considers family. Even after spending a week in the Spirit World she decided to stay instead of returning to her body in order to help Korra and help save the world. It wasnât just because she cared about what would happen to her family, she did it for people she didnât even know â for the good and the bad. Jinora is very courageous for a girl her age. She willingly braved the Spirit World despite never been there before and only having some books or lessons to help her. It shines through the most when she insisted that Korra not open the portal despite her own spirit being at risk. In that moment, Jinora would have let herself be sacrificed for the sake of the rest of the world. That isnât something any eleven year old could say about themselves. Even when chi blockers came to the island and threatened to wipe out the last of the airbenders she didnât run away. Not at first. Instead her and her siblings fought to defend their home, family and Lin. Through her fear, Jinora tends to shine the brightest. This wouldnât be complete without talking about her natural affinity with spirits. She confessed that sheâs always been able to see them and that means that they are a big part of her life. Due to the fact that most of her family not being able to see when they were hidden from humans, Jinora often kept her relationship with the spirits to herself. Instead she would simply claim that she was playing with imaginary friends. This affinity is what allowed her to be Korraâs guide on the first try in the first place even though she was severely lacking in the actual practice of it. It also seems that she has some sort of connection to the light spirit thatâs bonded to the Avatar as she first sensed something near her grandpaâs statue and later it was enough to wake her out of a dead sleep. Since the spirits have been in her life for as long as she can remember, Jinora is happy that Korra has decided to let the spirits return. Strengths Jinora is agile and light on her feet, while she doesn't seem to have the endless energy of Ikki or Meelo, she does have a great deal of stamina as she's been training most of her life. Of course, like the rest of her siblings she is an airbender which (as the name suggests) allows her to manipulate air. Already she excels in: air gliding, air scooters, air gates and other various techniques. It can also be used to enhance a bender's agility by utilizing it as a boost or even a cushion. Airbenders prefer not to use violence so they focus more on evasion and defense rather than attacking but that doesn't mean it can't be used offensively. Mental: She is mature beyond her years and has a great fondness for reading, and not just fiction. In fact, Jinora enjoys reading journals written by people from the past and is interested in strategy games like Pai Sho. When in Wan Shi Tong's library she was able to tell him just exactly how a radio works. But it's not all books and knowledge with Jinora and she does enjoy childish things such as air scooter races and playing with spirits. She is also the most focused of all of the siblings. While Meelo has no attention-span and Ikki isn't hard to disturb, Jinora doesn't get easily distracted. That's not to say that she has perfect focus but she's better at keeping it. Emotional: As the eldest of the airbending children, Jinora is often the mature one of her siblings. Not only is she mature but she's the most like their father in nature. Unlike Meelo and Ikki who could (and would) talk someone's ear off, she's the soft-spoken sibling - often getting cut off by one or the other when they butt in. Just because she's mature doesn't mean she doesn't get a little annoyed over it and sometimes Jinora will tease her little sister. Much to her father's dismay she's taken an interest in romance. Not only does she read historical romances but Jinora likes to involve herself in other people's love life. On top of all of that, Jinora is strong enough to sacrifice herself if it's for the good of the world. When her life was threatened in order to get Korra to cooperate, she didn't hesitate to tell the Avatar to not do it. Spiritual: She has (so far) the best spiritual affinity of her family that's still alive. This means that Jinora is not just in-touch with her own center but also that of the Spirit World. For as long as she can remember, she has been able to see the spirits that still live in her world even when others couldn't. Not only can she see them but she can also be a guide into the Spirit World and helped Korra when it was needed. She was also able to give off enough light to bring back Raava and interrupt the corruption of Korra's projection. Jinora's spiritual prowess doesn't end there. Her grandmother said that she had a strong life energy and that allowed her spirit to be separated from her body for a full week. Weaknesses No matter how great Jinora's physical skills are, she is still just an eleven year old girl. She isn't able to throw adults long distances without the help of her airbending. In fact, Jinora has been an airbender her entire life and suddenly finding herself without it would put her at a loss. Of course, just because she can't airbend it doesn't mean she can't use the physical training to avoid attacks. Plus Jinora is still training and hasn't mastered all of the techniques that an airbender can use. Mental: Now, just because she enjoys reading romance and getting involved in someone's love life doesn't mean she has the best advice. Do not ask her for that kind of advice if you want a good answer because burning down a village and throwing oneself into a volcano is not the way to get a boy's attention. It should also be noted that Jinora is only three years older than Ikki and while she spent her first three years as an only child, the majority of her life has been with her sister at her side. Two years after that their first brother came into the picture. She may be able to act independently if needed but for the most part, Jinora has always relied on having her family with her. When chi blockers came to the temple, Jinora didn't act alone in fighting them. Even in the Spirit World she had the help of one of the spirit friends she had made for part of the time. So while she can do things by herself, she prefers to have someone at her side. Emotional: No matter how mature she is, Jinora is still a child. She gets afraid just like any other 11 year old or wants her parents to hold her. Sometimes she even sleeps with her entire family when she's worried about something big. Most notably are the times when she teases her sister. Once Jinora and Meelo's teasing even made Ikki run away to try to live with a bunch of sky bison children. At one point she even showed self-doubt in herself when her father showed he had no spiritual affinity. Jinora isn't the most social girl either, if she's not spending time with her books then she's playing with spirits. It didn't help that she grew up on Air Temple Island where the only other kids were her siblings. Spiritual She may have the most spiritual power in the family but other than the spirits that she's made friends with and a few books here and there, Jinora doesn't actually know much about the Spirit World. While in Wan Shi Tong's library she may have believed she convinced him to let her look in the books but he betrayed her because she is the Avatar's granddaughter and the new Avatar's friend. Her actual experience in dealing with the more sinister and unfriendly spirits is limited. Of course, as nothing more than a spirit she can't bend and without her spirit, her body is defenseless. Anything else?: Jinora will be arriving with a dragonfly bunny spirit that she has named Furry-Foot. It's the size of a rabbit in the human world and it's dragonfly wings that serve as the bunny's ears allow him to fly. Apart from that he can make himself invisible to those without a lot of spiritual energy. He's intelligent enough to understand Jinora when she talks but doesn't talk in return. SAMPLES First Person: Training Wings Meme Third Person: The last time sheâd been in a library of any kind a spirit owl betrayed her and she became a hostage before spending nearly a week in the Fog of Lost Souls. Now, that same spirit owl lived in the library of this world so it was only natural to hesitate outside of it. Her love of reading was enough to overcome any residual emotions she felt. It didnât matter if Wan Shi Tong remembered her or not â he would feel the same way. Humans had betrayed his trust and they hadnât regained it back. âI am not afraid,â she told herself confidently. This time Jinora had something she hadnât when they last met. This time she had her bending. Entering the Spirit World as they had stripped them of all of their bending so the sense of loss that Luceti caused was something she adjusted to quickly. So while her ability to manipulate air wasnât as strong as it was supposed to be, it was better than not having it at all. A deep breathe in and Jinora moved towards the doors to let herself in. She forced herself not to look around for the Great Spirit Owl or his helpers and instead walked towards the nearest shelf. Even in comparison to the library in the Spirit World, this one far exceeded its knowledge. It wasnât limited to the Human World and the Spirit World â here there were books from so many worlds. There were books filled with information about technology Republic City hasnât seen yet and even stories that the library on Air Temple Island didnât have. She would know, sheâs read nearly all of them and several of them more than once. In no time at all, Jinora was lost in the world of books with stacks piling up around her. There was so much to learn, so much to read and she wanted to know it all. When Jinora finally looked up from pouring over yet another book filled with romance stories, the windows were darkening. Sheâd completely lost track of time. Hastily, she stood from her spot on the floor and began putting the books back in their proper place; though Jinora held on to the one she had been reading. The moment sheâs outside she put on some speed with a little airbending boost. It allowed her to reach the house before the sky had completely darkened. As Jinora stepped into the house where her family lived, she clutched the book to her chest tightly. Wan Shi Tong didnât allow books to leave his library but she didnât know if the rule applied to this world and this library as well. She would have to ask grandpa or GranGran and would return it after dinner if necessary. While Jinora had no problem bringing her books to the table in between meals, sheâd learned that they shouldnât be there during so she made a detour to her room to put it on the bed. It wouldnât suffer from accidents this way â a lesson she learned thanks to Meelo. With that done, she joined the rest of her family for dinner. âIâm sorry for being late. I was in the library and I lost track of time,â Jinora bowed to them before taking a seat at the table. In the future, she would keep better track of the hours of the day. |
